Abstrak

Leaf vegetable plants such as pakchoy and romaine lettuce have high economic value and are often cultivated using hydroponic systems due to their land efficiency and nutrient management. One widely used hydroponic system is the Nutrient Film Technique (NFT), which allows plant roots to absorb nutrients directly from a thin, continuous flow of nutrient solution. However, the success of this system is highly dependent on the right concentration of nutrient solution according to plant needs. This study aims to analyze the nutrient solution absorption of pakchoy and romaine lettuce plants in the NFT hydroponic system. The leaf vegetable plants cultivated were pakchoy mustard (Brassica rapa var. chinensis) and romaine lettuce (Lactuca sativa var. romana), with as many as 78 plants each in one NFT system installation for each treatment. The nutrient solution used was ABmix nutrient, which we formulated into five treatments with different nutrient concentrations, namely: control (P1), 0% concentration (P2), 50% concentration (P3), 150% concentration (P4), and 200% concentration (P5). Parameters observed included the condition of Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) of the nutrient solution, pH of the nutrient solution, absorption volume of the nutrient solution, and plant fresh weight growth rate. The results showed that the concentration of the nutrient solution affected the absorption of the nutrient solution and the growth rate of the plant's fresh weight. The TDS value increased as the nutrient solution concentration increased. The pH value remained within the optimal range (6.2-7.6). The absorption volume increased sharply after 21 days after transplanting, which indicates the active growth phase of the plants. The control treatment showed the optimal nutrient solution concentration for pakchoy and romaine lettuce plants, which was characterized by optimal nutrient solution absorption and plant fresh weight growth rate. The research implication is the recommendations of nutrient concentrations according to the plants' needs to support pakchoy and romaine lettuce growth optimally.
