Optimization of NaCl Solution in the Manufacture of Biocoagulants from Papaya Seeds (Carica papaya L.) and Moringa Seeds (Moringa oleifera)
Grains in principle contain proteins that act as biocoagulants to reduce water pollution elements in the coagulation-flocculation process. The effectiveness of coagulation increases when using extracted coagulants. Protein extraction from natural coagulants generally uses NaCl solution. This study aims to determine the concentration of the most effective NaCl solution as a biocoagulant solvent and determine the effectiveness between papaya seed and moringa seed biocoagulants. This study uses NaCl solvent with a concentration variation of 0.5M; 1M; 1.5M; and 2M in the manufacture of biocoagulants of papaya seeds and moringa seeds. The dose of biocoagulant was 80 mL of biocoagulant extract/300 mL of tofu waste sample with coagulation treatment at 200 rpm for 4 minutes, flocculation at 50 rpm for 30 minutes and sedimentation for 1 hour. The optimum concentration was determined based on the %effectiveness of the two biocoagulants in applying tofu factory wastewater to the reduction of Total Suspended Solid (TSS), Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) and turbidity. The results showed that the optimum concentration of NaCl solution as a biocoagulant solvent of papaya seeds (Carica papaya L.) and moringa seeds (Moringa oleifera), which is a NaCl solution with a concentration of 1M and the most effective biocoagulant in reducing TSS, COD and turbidity parameters in the application of tofu factory wastewater is moringa seed biocoagulant (Moringa oleifera).
